Ank Shastra (अंक शास्त्र) — "the science of numbers"
Your name and your birth date are not arbitrary. The numerical patterns in them describe a specific personality, life path, and the names, dates, and numbers that will support you.
Does this feel familiar?
You've watched your name change spelling once and your luck change with it. You've felt that some phone numbers, some addresses, some dates of starting things, just seem to work better than others. It's not a coincidence. There is a system that has been describing this pattern for two thousand years.
What it actually is
Numerology — Ank Shastra in Sanskrit — is the practice of reading the numerical patterns in your birth date and name to understand your nature, your life path, and the numbers that resonate or clash with you.
The Indian system uses Vedic numerology (also called Chaldean), which assigns specific letter-to-number mappings rooted in ancient Indian language structure. The Pythagorean system, popular in the West, uses a simpler 1-9 mapping. We support both, and the calculator on our site lets you compare.
From your birth date come three core numbers — Bhagyank (destiny), Mulank (driver), and the joint number from the digit sum. From your name comes a fourth — the Naam Ank. Together these four numbers describe a remarkably specific picture of how you operate.
How it actually works
Each digit from 1 to 9 has a specific personality, ruling planet, strengths, and failure modes. Number 1 is solar, ambitious, leadership-prone, struggles with collaboration. Number 7 is lunar, introspective, intuitive, struggles with practical action. Number 8 is Saturnian, disciplined, slow-burning, struggles with lightness. And so on.
A name's letters, summed and reduced to a single digit, produce a Naam Ank that should harmonise with the birth-date Bhagyank. When they do, decisions feel easy. When they clash, life feels like grinding upstream — and a small spelling change in the name can resolve decades of friction.
The practical applications are concrete: choosing a business name, selecting a phone number, picking a vehicle registration, timing a launch, choosing the spelling for a child's name. None of it is magic. All of it is pattern.

Common misconceptions
- ×It does not predict specific events — it describes pattern, not outcome
- ×It is not Western numerology only — Indian Vedic numerology is its own deeper system
- ×Changing your name does not erase your karma — it removes friction in a chart
- ×It is not in conflict with Vedic astrology — they are two views of the same thing
