Naamkaran is the classical Hindu sanskara — the sacred ceremony of formally naming a child, traditionally on the eleventh day after birth. Vedic astrology assigns each of the 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) four specific syllables. The syllable your child's first name begins with is determined by which nakshatra the moon was in at the moment of birth, and which of its four padas (quarters) the moon occupied.
