Pitru Paksha Tarpan

Pitru Paksha Tarpan (पितृ पक्ष तर्पण)

The 16-day annual window when ancestors are honoured. We coordinate the tarpan ritual on your behalf, performed by qualified priests on the correct tithi.

Does this feel familiar?

Pitru Paksha falls in September-October each year. The tradition says ancestors visit during these 16 days and the descendants who properly honour them receive blessings; those who don't carry an unresolved energetic debt. Most modern Indian families know this, intend to do tarpan, and end up missing the year.

What it is, how it works

Tarpan is the classical offering of water mixed with sesame seeds, kusha grass, and rice to the ancestors during Pitru Paksha. Each ancestor's tithi (the lunar day they died on) is the specific day for that ancestor's tarpan. The ritual is conducted by a qualified priest, traditionally at a holy river or designated tarpan site (Trimbakeshwar, Gaya, Allahabad, Haridwar are the most powerful).

We coordinate the ritual on your behalf: you provide the names and tithis of ancestors to be honoured (immediate parents, grandparents, great-grandparents — typically 3 generations), we book a qualified priest at the location of your choice, the tarpan is performed on the correct tithi for each ancestor, and you receive a video documentation of the ritual plus the prasad and tarpan-water by post.

This helps people who

  • Indian families wanting to honour ancestors during Pitru Paksha but unable to travel
  • NRI families specifically — the difficulty of doing tarpan from abroad is the typical reason it gets skipped
  • Anyone diagnosed with Pitra Dosha in a chart reading
  • Families with recently deceased members in their first Pitru Paksha after death
