First haircut sanskara
Find a Mundan muhurat
Mundan is the first ritual haircut for a child, traditionally performed in the first or third year. The right muhurat is selected for auspicious tithi, nakshatra, and the child's natal moon — the head being a sensitive area, the timing matters.
Classical considerations
- - Traditionally performed in the first or third year (avoiding the second).
- - Avoid Bhadra, Amavasya, eclipse periods, and the child's janma nakshatra.
- - Favored tithis: Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Trayodashi.
- - Auspicious nakshatras: Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Punarvasu, Chitra, Swati, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Jyeshtha, Revati.
- - Best weekdays: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
