Vastu for students
Which way should I face while studying?
Vastu prescribes specific facing directions for sustained focus, memory retention, and learning clarity. The direction your face points determines what energy you're drawing in.
Best — face this way
Northeast (Ishan kona)
Northeast is the Ishan kona — direction of Jupiter, ruler of wisdom, learning, and clarity. Sit facing East or North while studying.
Alternate — also good
East
East-facing study posture aligns with the rising Sun and is excellent for memory retention and morning study.
Avoid — never face this way while studying
South
Avoid sitting facing South while studying — South is Mars/Yama's direction, classically associated with fatigue and resistance to learning.
Practical setup
- • Place your desk so you face Northeast or East while seated.
- • Keep your back to a solid wall (not a window) — Vastu calls this prishtha bhumi.
- • Books on the South or West side; reading lamp on the Southeast.
- • A small plant or fresh flowers on the East side encourages focus.
