Classical lineage

Classical Vedic literature does not specifically reference this stone. Modern usage is grounded in mineralogical observation and energetic-tradition practice.

The Honest Stone

What we actually know about Rose Quartz

Every claim on this page is tagged with one of five evidence tiers. We separate what is mineralogically verifiable from what is classical, from what is modern belief, from what we ourselves doubt.

🔬Mineralogically verified
  • Trigonal SiO₂ with sub-microscopic dumortierite-like inclusions causing pink colour (mindat.org).
  • Mohs 7; conchoidal fracture; specific gravity 2.65.
  • Heat-sensitive: pink fades above ~250°C; UV exposure also fades over years.

Verifiable by mindat.org / GIA / standard mineralogy.

🪔Traditional practice
  • Western metaphysical lineage (mid-20th century onward) names rose quartz the heart-chakra stone.
  • Reiki tradition uses rose quartz for self-compassion work and grief integration.

Held in Jyotish, Reiki, or Western metaphysical lineages — not from primary classical text.

Modern claim
  • Manifestation of romantic love (popularised post-1990s).
  • Skin-care 'gua sha' tools for circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Popularised post-1980s. No classical or scientific support.

Disputed
  • Claims that rose quartz cures depression or anxiety: not supported by evidence; do not substitute for therapy or medication.

Siyara explicitly flags doubt about this claim.

What we do NOT claim

  • We do not claim rose quartz heals heart disease, treats depression, or guarantees romantic outcomes.

Authenticity & Fakes

How to tell real from imitation

Real specimens look like

Slightly translucent milky pink. Rarely deep colour; most natural rose quartz is pale. Asterism (star) is rare and premium.

Common fakes

Dyed quartz

Clear quartz soaked in pink dye

Tell-tale sign · Dye pools in fractures; uniform colour without natural variation

Pink glass / opalite

Glass coloured with manganese oxides

Tell-tale sign · Conchoidal fracture with bubbles; lighter weight (SG ~2.4 vs 2.65)

Pink calcite (mislabeled)

Lower-Mohs calcite sold as rose quartz

Tell-tale sign · Mohs 3 vs 7 — scratches with a steel pin

30-second home test

Scratch with a steel pin or knife — real rose quartz does not scratch (Mohs 7). Glass scratches; calcite scratches easily.

When NOT to use

Times this stone is not the right choice

Medical / toxicity
  • ·No known toxicity. Safe to handle, wear, and place near the body.
Astrological
  • ·Rose quartz is universally compatible — no chart configuration excludes it.
Energetic incompatibility
  • ·Avoid wearing simultaneously with strong projecting stones (black tourmaline, pyrite) — the receptivity gets muddled.
Life stage
  • ·Generally safe across life stages. During acute grief, consult a counsellor; the stone supports, it does not substitute.
